What is CannaBusiness?

The CannaBusiness Education Hub (CBE Hub) is New York’s premier training partner in growing a reliably skilled workforce for the burgeoning cannabis industry.

Providing New Yorkers of every age and background with the highest quality learning across all disciplines of cannabis — cultivation, processing, culinary, distribution and business – the CBE Hub offers certificates and microcredentials that can be earned in just months.

The CBE Hub was seeded in 2022 with a $1 million grant by Governor Kathy Hochul. In establishing the groundbreaking educational collaborative, the Governor called for Hub efforts to especially focus on connecting cannabis workforce opportunities with those residing in historically underserved communities.

Four SUNY Colleges comprise the CannaBusiness Education Hub:  SUNY Schenectady, SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College, Columbia-Greene Community College, and SUNY Adirondack. Committed to the Governor’s equity vision, each college brings important knowledge and real-world expertise to the collaboration.

  • SUNY Schenectady, the designated lead campus in the CBE Hub, has developed a micro-credential course of study spanning the research, development, and creation of edible cannabis products. The program draws savory foods expertise from its award-winning Culinary Arts department and industry connections and sweet edibles knowledge from its baking, pastry arts, chocolate, and confections faculty. Community education classes in cannabis cultural history and cultivation at home are also available.
  • SUNY Fulton-Montgomery and Columbia-Greene Community College, longtime leaders in higher education for New York’s rural communities, both offer training on the cultivation, quality assurance, and processing of cannabis. SUNY Fulton-Montgomery learners may earn certificates in cultivation, lab quality assurance, and cannabis dispensing; Columbia-Greene Community College students may pursue a micro-credential track with instruction on cannabis cultivation, processing, and retail sales.
  • SUNY Adirondack draws upon its vast institutional knowledge of agricultural business in New York’s North Country to offer students a micro-credential in cannabis entrepreneurship. The college also offers a micro-credential curriculum in hemp production, including growing, harvesting, and preparing hemp.

Once certificates and micro-credentials are completed, graduates of the CBE Hub may opt to continue their learning with a broader course of study.  Or, they can pursue regional job leads and additional cannabis training opportunities provided through the CBE Hub in partnership with the New York State Department of Labor and the Office of Cannabis Management.
